The Department of Justice’s Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) proposed rules relating to the nationwide implementation of EOIR’s Electronic Case Access and Filing System (“ECAS”), providing only 30 days for public comment, including the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. In written comments filed January 4, 2021, KIND recognized the importance of the ECAS expansion and called EOIR to provide a meaningful public comment period – at least 60 days, as generally required, and preferably longer, to ensure participation by all stakeholders.
