KIND, represented by Latham & Watkins LLP, filed an amicus curiae brief in a federal lawsuit challenging restrictive EOIR regulations that took effect January 15. The Department of Justice regulations undermine children’s opportunities to receive sufficient time to establish eligibility for humanitarian protection and curtail their chances of meaningful review following an adverse decision in immigration court. KIND’s brief, filed in the District Court for the District of Northern California in Centro Legal de la Raza v. EOIR, supports the plaintiffs’ request for a preliminary injunction, highlighting the ways in which the regulations would disadvantage unaccompanied children in particular.
