Press Telebriefing: The Biden Administration is Responsible for the Safety and Well-Being of Children Arriving at the Southern Border

March 2, 2021

Washington, DC – On Tuesday, March 2, at 11 a.m. Kids in Need of Defense experts will hold a media telebriefing to detail the next steps the Biden Administration should take to protect children and families arriving at the border.

Set against the backdrop of headlines shaped by recent news of children arriving at the southern border and being placed in ORR facilities, this call will provide specific recommendations about the best ways to protect the legal rights and ensure the well-being of unaccompanied children arriving in the United States. KIND will provide expert analysis, as well as a clear lens into the situation at the border with KIND attorney Florence Chamberlin joining the call from Juarez, Mexico. Pulling from our Blueprint: Concrete Steps to Protect Unaccompanied Children on the Move, KIND experts will address the following concerns:

  • Children placed in Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) facilities
  • Best practices to ensure children are processed safely and swiftly
  • How best to release children to willing sponsors
  • Information about new child arrivals at the U.S.-Mexico border
  • Needed reforms to address the root causes of migration

There will be opportunity to pose questions during the call. To join this telebriefing, please RSVP to Megan McKenna, mmckenna@supportkind.org.
