This statement focuses on the following key areas of urgent need and opportunity: (1) the humanitarian reception of unaccompanied children at the border, including through the hiring of child welfare professionals in CBP facilities and compliance with the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act (TVPRA); (2) ensuring fair access to protection for children in proceedings, including through the provision of legal counsel; (3) the reunification of separated families and the creation of redress options and pathways to permanent legal status; and (4) the expansion of regional protection initiatives and efforts to address root causes of child migration.
