KIND Urges New EOIR Director to Restore Due Process, Fairness at Agency

September 24, 2021

Washington, DC – Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) today praised the U.S. Attorney General’s decision to appoint David Neal to lead the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) at the Department of Justice. The organization notes that EOIR plays a critical role in delivering justice and due process to unaccompanied children and other immigrants seeking protection in the United States. It urges Neal to uphold those principles as he assumes his new role. In response to today’s announcement, KIND President Wendy Young issued the following statement:

“Neal brings deep expertise to this vital position, and KIND looks forward to working with him in this new capacity. He has served as an Immigration Judge, Chief Immigration Judge, and Chair of the Board of Immigration Appeals. This extensive experience will enable him to ably lead EOIR as the administration seeks to overhaul the U.S. asylum system and immigration courts to restore fundamental fairness. Neal’s vast knowledge of immigration law and the United States’ long-held commitment to protecting those seeking safety in our nation will help to re-establish integrity and sound judgement in the U.S. immigration adjudication system.”
