KIND’s 2021 Gala: Supporters from Across the Country Come Together for Children Alone

April 8, 2021

Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) hosted its annual gala, virtually this year, Coming Together for Children Alone, on Wednesday, April 7, 2021.

We were delighted to welcome hundreds of supporters from across the country to celebrate KIND’s achievements from this past unprecedented year, as well as highlight the profound impact KIND and its network of pro bono attorneys makes on the lives of unaccompanied and immigrant children.

The exciting event brought together friends of KIND and champions for children, including Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Former Secretary Hillary Clinton, Representatives Joaquin Castro and Norma Torres, author Isabel Allende, Samantha Bee, V., Trudie Styler, Azie Tesfai, Bridget Regan, and more! The evening also featured a dynamic rendition of Rent’s Seasons of Love performed by the Children’s Choir of NYC and a beautiful performance by Grammy-winning artist, Gloria Estefan.

KIND was proud to recognize three pro bono partners for their invaluable service to children in need. For their outstanding pro bono commitment to unaccompanied immigrant and refugee children, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP and Ropes & Gray LLP received KIND’s 2021 Allegiance Award. Netflix received KIND’s 2021 Innovation Award for their efforts to extend corporate citizenship to the groundbreaking issue of pro bono legal representation for unaccompanied children.

We are profoundly appreciative of our gala sponsors, individual donors, speakers, performers, and pro bono partners who made this special event a success. We look forward to celebrating in person next year.
