Honoring our Seattle Pro Bono Attorneys

October 4, 2021

Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) is proud to honor pro bono attorneys who are providing vital legal services to refugee and immigrant children. KIND’s pro bono attorneys are at the core of KIND’s mission and go above and beyond to help unaccompanied children. They play a critical role in ensuring children receive the protections they deserve as they journey to the U.S. so they can live a life free of fear.

KIND is thrilled to honor our 2021 attorneys and volunteers and thank them for their service to unaccompanied children:

Miguel Rodé, Microsoft

Seattle KINDness Matters Awardee of the Year

These kids are brave and resourceful, and come to the US in search of a better life for themselves and their families. Helping KIND on their mission to secure legal support for them is a way to honor our own personal story as immigrants.  Volunteering with KIND is an intense and demanding experience but knowing that you are making a life-changing contribution to the children is really all the motivation you need.

Seattle Pro Bono Team of the Year

Our client was always polite, composed, and almost detached. He stuck to answering our questions during the meetings and let us drive the conversation and agenda. But one day he spoke up timidly and asked us when and how he could get a work permit. All this kid wanted, after all the unspeakable difficulties he had been through, was to be safe and to start supporting himself at once. I was heartbroken but more than that I was awed by the resilience and grace of this young man.
