Our Comprehensive Approach

We at KIND have intentionally developed a comprehensive approach within our work to address the multi-faceted needs of unaccompanied migrant children once they are in the U.S. Not only do children come to us in need of legal services, but also often with deep traumas caused by the violence and fear experienced during their forced migration. Here’s how we address them.

Legal Protection

We partner with major law firms, corporations, and law schools to provide pro bono attorneys to represent unaccompanied children referred to KIND.

Policy and Advocacy

We work with Capitol Hill, federal agencies, and other policymakers to help ensure that unaccompanied children receive fair and appropriate treatment while in the U.S. immigration system.

Family Separation Response

We formed the Family Separation Response team to address the profound crisis caused by the Trump Administration taking children away from their parents upon arrival at the U.S. border during its “Zero Tolerance Policy.”

Psychosocial Support

We provide holistic support for migrant children to address their traumas as they adjust to a new country, new language, and new homes.

Voices That Matter Most

We created the Voices That Matter Most project to help immigrant and refugee children claim their power by developing their own personal stories of fear, flight, resilience, and hope.

Global Programs

We conduct international research and educate the public on root causes of child migration and promote regional standards and joint action for the protection of children on the move.
