Set against the backdrop of headlines shaped by this week’s news about the rising toll of the Trump Administration’s decried family separation policy and revelations that Tropical Storm Eta’s lethal impact on Central America may cause more migrants to flee to the United States, the call will provide specific recommendations President-Election Biden and his team should immediately implement in order to bring the nation’s immigration policies into compliance with the law and American ideals. KIND experts will draw from the organization’s recently released blueprint to guide future immigration policy, KIND Blueprint: Concrete Steps to Protect Unaccompanied Children on the Move, as well as the organization’s report Thwarted Potential: The Need to Revive and Expand the Central American Minors (CAM) Program as a Key Path to Protection for At-risk Unaccompanied Children.
Issues addressed during the call will include:
- immediately halting family separation and reuniting separated families
- ending Title 42 and the Migrant Protection Protocols, and how to safely process children seeking protection in the United States
- addressing the root causes of migration
- establishing new and expanded refugee processing in Central America
- ensuring a fair adjudication process in the United States, including by providing attorneys to all unaccompanied children in deportation proceedings.
There will be an opportunity to pose questions during the call.
