Every Child Deserves Safety, Protection, and the Chance to Thrive

Children who are forced to migrate alone or become separated from their families face extraordinary risks before, during, and after migration. Violence, exploitation, trafficking, family separation, and limited access to education, healthcare, and legal protection can jeopardize their safety and future at every stage of their journey.

Protecting children requires more than responding after harm has occurred. It requires strengthening the systems, partnerships, and legal protections that help children stay safe wherever they are—whether they are seeking protection, rebuilding their lives after migration, or integrating into a new community.

At KIND, we work alongside children, families, governments, and international entities and local partners to ensure every child has access to protection, justice, and opportunities to thrive.

The Need Has Never Been Greater

Facts and Figures of Children on Move

Around the world, millions of children have been forced from their homes by conflict, violence, persecution, poverty, climate-related disasters, and instability. Many flee with their families, while others make dangerous journeys alone or become separated along the way. Too often, these children face exploitation, trafficking, abuse, detention, and barriers to the protection they urgently need.

As global displacement continues to rise, so does the need for coordinated, child-centered solutions. Protecting children requires more than responding to emergencies—it requires investing in legal services, strengthening child protection systems, supporting families and communities, and ensuring every child has the opportunity to recover, rebuild, and thrive.

Behind every statistic is a child seeking safety. That is why KIND works across borders and throughout the migration journey—to ensure that no child faces these challenges alone.

43 Million
By the end of 2024, an estimated 48.8 million children had been displaced by conflict and violence worldwide.
19.1 Million

4.4 Million

39%

KIND's Mission & Vision

We envision a world in which children’s rights and well-being are protected as they migrate alone in search of safety.

We will achieve this vision by: Ensuring that no child appears in immigration court without high quality legal representation, advancing laws, policies, and practices that ensure children’s protection and uphold their right to due process and fundamental fairness, and by promoting in countries of origin, transit, and destination durable solutions to child migration that are grounded in the best interests of the child and ensure that no child is forced to involuntarily migrate.
