Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) Statement on U.S. Supreme Court Decision on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization

June 24, 2022

Washington, DC—Today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision that eliminates a long-protected legal right to comprehensive reproductive health services—including abortion services—impacts all of us at KIND, our staff, our partners, our supporters, and most importantly, our clients. A massive setback, this ruling closes the door to reproductive health rights protected by long-standing, well-reasoned legal precedent. Individuals across the nation, including youth who are pregnant because of traumatic gender-based violence, will suffer the consequences.  This decision is also likely to open doors for far more sweeping legal challenges regarding a host of other vital human rights. In light of this devastating decision, we urge lawmakers across the nation to ensure all people continue to have access to safe and comprehensive reproductive healthcare. KIND pledges to stand with all who seek and have the right to safety, acceptance, respect, and dignity. These are the beacons that call so many to our land, and it is our collective responsibility to protect these ideals.
