Washington, DC — They have worked, raised families, paid taxes, and contributed to our society for up to two decades—and in another pointless policy shift that benefits no one and harms many – the Trump Administration is now going to deport them.

“By ending Temporary Protected Status for Hondurans, we are sending people back to a country with one of the highest murder rates in the world, including for women and girls, and which remains unstable after contentious elections in November 2017—for no real reason other than that we can,” said KIND President Wendy Young. “Families—including thousands of U.S. citizen children—will be ripped from their loved ones and communities left with gaping holes. We are inflicting completely unnecessary suffering and trauma upon thousands of people, many of whom have been in the United States for nearly 20 years. This is yet another example of how the Administration has been consistently targeting Central American families and children in a ruthless policy that seeks out the most vulnerable.

“History will judge this Administration harshly for effectively shuttering TPS and opening to deportation hundreds of thousands of people from insecure countries who have called the United States home for years, decades,” said Young. “Make no mistake—we will all be impacted in negative ways by these brutish policies which seek to destroy the core values of the United States.”
