KIND Steps into Global Leadership on Family Reunification

April 29, 2025

KIND is proud to announce that it is taking a key leadership role in the Global Family Reunification Network (FRUN), a unique platform that provides States, UN agencies, NGOs, academics and other relevant stakeholders with a collaborative space for advocacy, policy dialogue, information sharing, and capacity to support family reunification efforts. Launched in 2020, the FRUN is the first global platform devoted to family reunification for refugees and other beneficiaries of international protection. In the context of the 2023 Global Refugee Forum, the FRUN mobilized diverse actors in support of a multistakeholder pledge, which KIND has joined, aiming to reunite 1 million families by 2030.

In February 2025, KIND was appointed a member of the FRUN Advisory Group, which is responsible for guiding the overall priorities and activities of the FRUN. Other Advisory Group members include: RefugePoint, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC), Leiden University and DLA Piper.

In March 2025, KIND also launched a new dedicated Working Group on Unaccompanied and Separated Children (UASC) within the FRUN, which brings together diverse stakeholders to promote research, share good practices and explore practical solutions that help to safely reunite unaccompanied and separated refugee children and adolescents.

“KIND looks forward to working in close partnership with States and stakeholders in all regions to advance support for sustainable solutions for unaccompanied and separated children, working collaboratively to ensure that these children can reunify safely with their families and receive the support they need to thrive,” said KIND Senior Advisor for Global Advocacy, Ben Lewis.

In 2025, the Working Group is planning a series of expert workshops, online webinars and global peer-learning of State representatives to explore common challenges, promising practices and opportunities related to family reunification for unaccompanied and separated refugee children and adolescents. The Working Group will also produce mapping of good practices in a select number of countries and facilitate informal opportunities for States and other stakeholders to exchange information.

KIND first joined the Global Family Reunification Network in 2023. Today, there are over 200 organizations or individual members represented in the FRUN, with a global membership that continues to grow.

As the leading international non-governmental organization devoted to the protection of unaccompanied and separated children, KIND is committed to contributing our global expertise on the issue of family reunification to the FRUN and we look forward to collaborating with States and other stakeholders to advance the FRUN’s important objectives.
